Arthur Danny Hipp

November 28, 1951 — May 17, 2025

Arthur Danny Hipp, known to everyone as Dan, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2025, in Sacramento, California, at the age of 73. Born on November 28, 1951, in Casa Grande, Arizona. Dan was raised in Visalia, California, where his quick wit, love of sports, and lifelong gift for mischief took root early. Whether he was sneaking off on his bike, teasing his sister, or charming his way out of trouble with a grin, Dan had a knack for keeping life interesting — and those around him on their toes.

Dan proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War for three years, earning many awards and accolades for his bravery and perseverance. Medals awarded - National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal; Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60 Device; Bronze Star Medal and Joint Service Commendation Medal. Thank you for your service, soldier. After returning home, he spent his professional life in the health insurance industry, rising to become a respected administrative executive. He retired with Delta Dental, gaining the admiration of colleagues and employees alike who valued his leadership, dedication, and legendary water cooler banter.

A true sports fanatic, Dan remained a loyal (and often disappointed) fan of the Las Vegas Raiders, cheered for the San Francisco Giants, and could be found glued to the screen during the Tour de France, NASCAR, or F1 races. He cherished his big TV, not only for sports and westerns but also for playing video games with his grandsons — who often had to work hard to beat him.

Dan’s passions were simple and sincere: cold beer, Taco Bell, the California State Fair, and beach trips — He especially enjoyed Huntington Beach for its beautiful sunsets, ocean breezes, and the annual tradition of patiently — very patiently — putting up with his in-laws. He often joked that if he could survive family beach trips with his sense of humor intact and a beer in his hand, he could survive just about anything.

Above all, Dan was a devoted husband to Nina, his soulmate and partner in life for 46 years. Their marriage was built on unconditional love, mutual respect, and a shared joy in life’s small pleasures. Together, they raised a family, weathered every storm, and made each other laugh every day. To watch Dan look at Nina was to know what it meant to love fully and without reservation.

He loved deeply, laughed easily, and carried a sense of humor that was always contagious. Anyone lucky enough to meet Dan was a better person for it.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Velma and Arthur Hipp; his grandson, Christian Bishop; and his brother-in-law, David Braun. He is survived by his beloved wife, Nina Hipp; his sister, Sonjia Braun; his daughters, Catherine Nissen (Mitch), Jennifer Hipp, and Jacqueline Greene (Jason); and his cherished grandchildren: Madison, Jacob, Aliya, Chase, Bria, Phoenix, Collin, and Lucy.

Dan went out the way most men only dream of — peacefully, surrounded by love, and with a full head of hair.

A Celebration of Life will be held on July 12th at 10:00 a.m. at East Lawn Memorial Park, followed by a reception at 1:00 p.m. at Old Town Pizza and Taphouse in Elk Grove, CA. All who knew and loved Dan are welcome to come share stories, raise a glass, and celebrate the incredible man he was.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Vietnam Veterans of America in honor of Dan’s service: https://vva.org
