Rena Page departed this life in her home on Sunday, April 6, 2025. She was the daughter of the late William David Johnson and the late Bishop Ethel M. Pigford, born June 9, 1935 in Wilmington, North Carolina. She was the beloved mother of her daughter, Sabrina Thomas and her son Derrick Page. She was a loving and devoted mother and a military wife who traveled extensively which included 4 years overseas in Holland. Sacramento became home in 1977 when the family was stationed at Mather Air Force Base.
After graduation from C. F. Pope High School in Burgaw, NC, Rena graduated from AT &T University in Greensboro, NC with a Bachelor of Science degree. Her profession as a Registered Nurse started in 1958 and concluded in 2003, when she retired, after 25 years of nursing at Kaiser Hospital in Sacramento California. Rena was a longtime faithful member of Grace Missionary Baptist Church, as she joined under the leadership of the late Homer Coleman. She served on the Nurses Guild at Grace during the formation years and the foundation of Grace Missionary Baptist Church. Years later she was dedicated as a "Mother" of the Grace Missionary Baptist Church while under the leadership of the late Pastor Shelby Richards. She enjoyed and participated in Bible study, sang in the choir under the direction of Sister Richards and was also a trustee on the Board of Trust for many years. Her presence will be missed.
Rena was a member of the established "Birthday Club." The members: Rena Page, Betty Terrell, Dorothy McLaurin, Marthel Harris, JoAnn Trammel, Vicky Anderson, Louise Williams, Betty Smith, Dolores Coleman, Deborah Elder, Lillie Lowe and Dianna Storey. These 12 ladies shared in friendship and celebration. Many cherished social events hosted by the "the Birthday Club" might have gone unattended if not for Rena's warm invitations and gentle encouragement she extended to her church, family and friends. She had a way of bringing people together.
She was reared in a Christian home and made sure to follow the same for her family. Her prayers, trust in God and wisdom helped to mold and shape her life and those she loved. Of all the many songs which lifted and inspired her, she loved the song "I won't complain". Truly, in her own words: "I have experienced a good life and enjoyed the peace and security of my surroundings." Rena's love for life will be remembered always.
She leaves to await the coming of Christ, her daughter Sabrina Thomas, her son Derrick Page both of Sacramento: Sister Rosetta Loper Grant of North Carolina, three grandsons, Jason Thomas (Rachael), and Jeffrey Thomas, and Mario, two great granddaughters Serenity Thomas, Jaiden Thomas and a great grandson Elijah (Los Angeles) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
With grateful heats, the family of Rena Page would like to express our sincere appreciation for all acts of kindness, words of comfort, prayers and thoughtfulness during our time of bereavement. May the Lord bless and keep you all in His tender, loving care.
