April Rose Orsi passed away peacefully on September 3, 2024 at the age of 104.
April was born on April 30, 1920 and grew up working in her father’s olive oil factory on Auburn Blvd - Orsi Olive Oil. April drew the label of bears (which is Orsi in Italian) for the tins and bottles of Orsi Olive Oil when she was nine years old. A graduate of San Juan High School in 1937, she briefly attended Sac City College to major in art until her professor told her there was nothing he could teach her! She worked and modelled for Ransohoff department store in downtown Sacramento.
She is preceded in death by her parents Angelo Orsi and Maria Picetti Orsi, sister May, brother Roy and husband Alvaro.. She had many wealthy suitors from San Francisco propose to her. May told her she should marry one. April’s response was “you don’t go to bed with the money”. April married Alvaro in 1959 in Lucca, Italy “for love” until his death in 1991.
April will be remembered as a feisty woman who spoke her mind.
