Alton Eugene Hardin Sr.

Alton Eugene Hardin Sr., 83, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2025. Alton was born on March 21, 1942, in Eugene, Oregon, and raised in Liberal, Kansas as a child until he was nine years old when his family moved to the Sacramento region of California. Alton was a kind, patient, and loving husband, father, grandfather, and uncle. He was the youngest of three, with an elder brother and sister. He married his loving wife, Clara on October 6, 1973. They were married for 52 years. Alton is survived by his devoted wife, Clara; their three children, Dorena, Alton Jr., and Jason; and his grandchildren, Aidan, Leland, Emma, Jason Jr., Blaire, Linh, Lyan, Kiet, and Kai-Yen; and his older brother, Arnold.

A proud Vietnam veteran who served with the army, Alton dedicated his life to his family and his work as a skilled contractor and craftsman, building on and improving his family's home. He loved music - Chet Atkins was his favorite artist - and played the guitar throughout his life. He always enjoyed playing for family and friends.

Alton was a friend to all and enjoyed good company and family. He was always silly and goofy, making silly jokes and funny faces to bring a smile to everyone's faces. He particularly enjoyed fishing (even when he got skunked), camping, bowling, poker, his dogs, and spending time with family and friends.

In the words of Chet Atkins, “Years from now … they’ll hear my guitars speaking for me.” Alton’s life continues to speak through the many wonderful memories he leaves behind. His family misses him dearly. He was an amazing father, husband, grandfather, and uncle. He always brightened the room with his beautiful smile. Alton was authentic and wore his heart on his sleeve. He was one of a kind.

Friends and family are invited to a viewing on Thursday, November 6th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 7th at 9:00 a.m. at East Lawn Elk Grove, 9189 E Stockton Blvd, Elk Grove, CA 95624. A celebration of life luncheon will follow at Well Season Restaurant, 9089 Bruceville Rd., Elk Grove, CA 95758 starting at noon.
