Alice Ya-Young Lin

April 1, 1944 — March 25, 2024

Roseville

Alice Ya-Young Lin passed away peacefully at home on March 25, 2024, at 79 years old. She was a devoted and caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. Born in Taiwan, she was one of five siblings in a farming family. In 1967 at the age of 23, Ya-Young was most notably chosen as one of the top 10 most influential young women in the country for her work as an agricultural ambassador to the Philippines. In 1968, she married and moved to Canada. Soon after, she immigrated to the United States with her husband, landing first in New York City, then eventually settling in Roseville, CA.

Alice was a hard worker, taking on various jobs, including her time as an Avon Representative where she became a top salesperson and member of the prestigious Avon President's Club. She was also an original staff member of what eventually became the Mikuni Restaurant chain in the Sacramento area. However, her first priority was always her family and friends.

Alice was kind, generous, and made friends easily. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing, shopping, and traveled extensively with her husband. Her guilty pleasures were desserts, chocolate and coffee, but at the same time, she was very health conscious and was an early adopter of the recycling movement, eating organic, and was a strong proponent of reducing the use of plastics. For health and religious reasons, she was a proud vegetarian for over 20 years, all the way up until her passing.

She is survived by her husband, Tsaw Lin; her 2 children, Jeffrey (with wife Virginia) and Louisa (with husband Andy); her 2 grandsons, Maxwell and Jackson; her 2 sisters, Dee-Young and Joan; her 2 brothers, Devan and Hou-Jen; and her many nieces and nephews.

She will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed for her beauty, warm smile, kind heart, generosity, sense of humor, intelligence, and dedication to her family.
